This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for or the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, equipment cooling, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instructions on security, safety, documentation, and other publications governing the performance of duties. The Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. Knowledge of testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures utilizing a variety of test devices and ability to analyze modify, and repair complex electrical or environmental systems and components on assigned aircraft. (Applies to 5th Generation Aircraft Only). Skill in calibrating and adjusting components such as amplifiers, proximity boxes, generators, and voltage regulators. (Apples to 5th Generation Aircraft Only). Ability to use a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics trade. Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer-based maintenance documentation and supply systems and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi component assemblies and devices. The Ability to effectively communicate with workers and supervisors in English using both oral and written reports. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. Maintains job proficiency by reading/reviewing new or revised technical orders or related publications and by completing applicable CDC, OJT, and FTD classes as required. May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs.
