Build and maintain strong relationships with MD elected officials, staff, and community stakeholders to support public affairs objectives
Stay ahead of local issues by monitoring council and committee activity, hearings, and legislation, flagging and escalating emerging risks and opportunities to Government Affairs leadership as needed
Assist in developing positions on key issues, drafting memos, and preparing summaries and foundational analysis to inform state-level strategies
Organize meetings, events, and community engagements, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up documentation
Keep detailed records, contact lists, and issue trackers to ensure proactive management of local public affairs activities
Requirements
3-5 years in public affairs, government relations, community engagement, or a related field; experience with county or local level government processes is highly valued
Understanding of legislative processes at federal, state and local levels in the WGL Maryland territory
Strong relationship-building and coalition-building abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools
Hands-on, proactive, and adaptable with a strong ability to learn and grow in a dynamic environment
Passion for engagement and the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences
We offer a competitive salary range of $95,400 to $138,075 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
