Lead development and implementation of tax strategies that minimize effective tax rate and maximize cash flow, including structuring guidance for joint ventures, project finance arrangements, and capital expenditure planning.
Identify, evaluate, and secure tax incentives, grants, and credits related to manufacturing and project development (e.g., Federal/State R&D credits, Section 179D, Section 45X/48E energy credits); oversee R&D tax credit calculations.
Understand and document the Company's tax positions as they relate to the IRA and new tax credits; monitor legislative changes and proactively advise leadership on optimization strategies.
Lead the annual ASC 740 income tax reporting process, including quarterly and annual provisions, deferred tax asset/liability analysis, valuation allowance evaluation, and uncertain tax positions (FIN 48).
Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of all Federal, State, and non-US income tax returns; manage estimated tax payments, extensions, and cash tax forecasting.
Direct specialized manufacturing tax computations including UNICAP (Section 263A), inventory accounting method changes, and depreciation/fixed asset tracking across projects.
Manage SALT compliance across all non-income taxes (sales & use, property, gross receipts, payroll); continuously assess nexus footprint as operations expand into new jurisdictions.
Serve as primary point of contact for all federal, state, and local tax audits; develop audit defense strategies and maintain comprehensive documentation.
Establish and maintain effective internal controls over tax processes (SOX compliance); drive automation initiatives and manage external provider relationships.
Requirements
10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or in-house corporate tax, with a minimum of 4+ years at a public accounting firm.
Strong knowledge of ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes) and US GAAP, evidenced by recent responsibility leading a global income tax provision process.
In-depth understanding of US federal and state tax rules; experience with manufacturing tax incentives (45X, R&D credits, UNICAP/263A) strongly preferred.
Recent tax experience at a multinational US-headquartered corporation preferred; knowledge of transfer pricing a plus.
Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, pioneering environment without an existing roadmap; strong project management and cross-functional communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or advanced degree preferred

Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Tax Director to serve as a key strategic partner to executive leadership, fully responsible for all aspects of the company's tax function. This role reports into our Corporate Controller. As part of our Finance & Accounting team, you will lead federal and state income tax, complex tax planning, SALT compliance, and ASC 740 financial reporting in collaboration with Legal, FP&A, and external advisors - with a particular focus on our US manufacturing operations and utility-scale project development model.
