The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO's System & Resource Planning department invites applications for a full-time Planning Engineer, Transmission Integration. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct engineering studies evaluating the reliability, economic, and regulatory impacts of transmission projects on the New York transmission system. Analyses performed by Planning Engineers support transmission infrastructure development in New York State to meet public policy needs, including New York State's climate-based goal of a 100% CO2-free electric system by 2040. Planning Engineers will participate in planning activities with neighboring control areas, market participant committees, the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Northeast Power Coordination Council (NPCC) New York State Reliability Council (NYSRC), and Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative (EIPC). ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct power system engineering studies (power flow, stability, short circuit, transfer limits, resource adequacy) in compliance with NERC, NPCC, NYSRC criteria. Perform market simulation and production cost analysis using standard software tools and applicable economic assessment criteria. Coordinate and perform interconnection studies for transmission projects proposed by developers. Review details of major transmission projects proposed under FERC Order 1000 competitive transmission processes. Evaluate system benefits and potential risk factors of competing transmission projects and make recommendations for which transmission projects should be built. Prepare reports and presentations to support the activities of the Transmission Integration Department.
