The primary responsibility of this role is to utilize engineering expertise to lead the team to design, develop, and deliver cloud software products including platforms, services, and/or solutions, in accordance with appropriate processes, meeting Toyota's goals for the product. Reporting to the OneTech General Manager , the person in this role will join Product Cybersecurity (PCG) team to design, build, and operate cloud software powering Toyota's connected vehicle ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and deliver cloud security software development within the product ecosystem
- Build a high-performing engineering organization - attract senior talent, develop career paths and succession, and champion technical depth, continuous learning, and engineering rigor
- Set software engineering standards across PCG, driving consistency across programs as an enterprise-wide change agent influencing how Toyota designs and delivers cloud-native software for its connected-vehicle products
- Architect and deliver scalable cloud software covering the product ecosystem, including: microservices, APIs, mobile-facing backends, containerized workloads, and serverless platforms on AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Drive continuous improvement in software delivery practices and automation (CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code) to increase efficiency and quality
- Serve as a trusted advisor to management/executives both in North America and globally; recognized as an enterprise-wide change agent
- Provide cloud software engineering technical thought leadership throughout the research, design, development, deployment, and operations of the Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electrified (CASE) mobility solutions and digital services
- What you bring
- 12+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading deeply technical cloud software development teams
- Extensive experience in cloud-native software delivery, including microservices architecture, container orchestration, and DevOps automation
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing high-performing multi-disciplinary engineering teams (backend, frontend, platform, and data) including hiring, performance coaching, and career development
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional partnerships with internal stakeholders and external counterparts - including OEM partners, Tier-1 suppliers, and regional teams across NA, EU, and Japan
- Deep technical expertise with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) - e.g., compute, storage, networking, identity, container orchestration (Kubernetes), serverless functions, and managed data services
- Deep technical expertise with modern software engineering practices - e.g., CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), observability, SRE principles, and secure software development lifecycle
- Deep technical expertise with distributed systems and API design - e.g., RESTful and event-driven architectures, high-availability patterns, performance tuning, and scalability for production workloads
- Excellent written and communication skills with experience engaging and presenting to executive leadership

- Master's Degree in Engineering, AI, or related discipline
- Experience with AI/ML, including Generative AI and common GAI platforms
- Experience with ISO / SAE 21434 and/or UN R155/R156
- Experience with ISO 15118
- Relevant certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, or OSCP, are highly desirable
- Fluent in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) for business and technical discussions
