Department Overview The Field Service Organization (FSO) is responsible for supporting the upgrade, implementation and maintenance of highly technical Communications Systems at customer locations throughout the West Region (T8). Job tasks include but are not limited to: Subscriber mobile installation, System Upgrades, Deployment, Optimization, and repair of Infrastructure, Public Safety Loggers, Subscribers, Computers, Servers and Network Equipment. Our department works closely with Customers, System Managers, Engineers, Sales Team, Project Managers, System Technologists and Service Partners to accomplish the assigned tasks. This posting is based in the Greater Los Angeles Area, but covers throughout the entire state of California and parts of Nevada and Arizona. Job Description The position responsibilities include upgrades, implementation, optimization and maintenance support of a large complex regional communication system. The Field Service Technician will provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure. Maintain, optimize, test and document complex communications systems. Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments. Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues. Perform removal and installation of Fixed Network Equipment (FNE) and mobile communications equipment and associated cabling in customer locations/vehicles utilizing best practices and per R56 Standards and Guidelines. Document customer information, details of work performed, hours worked, parts used, specific instruction from the customer, etc. Responsible for accurate reporting in time tracking systems each week before the day/time determined by the manager. Responsible for proper care and maintenance of all assigned company assets. Responsible for calibration of assigned test equipment and keeping the test equipment database up to date. Responsible for processing all expense reports within the Motorola Solutions HR Guidelines. Deliver a strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), deliver a proficiency in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges. Candidate Qualifications: Within 6 months of hire, must possess CET Associate certification. Within 6 months of hire, must achieve appropriate technical certifications for their role. Must possess R56 Installer Certification within 1 year of hire. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record. Must be able to pass a background check. Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers. Must be able to obtain NERC CIP clearance upon completion of a Personnel Risk Assessment. Network certifications (Security +/ CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar, highly desirable) Capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues. Strong knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks Strong knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet switching techniques Total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques Strong "people" skills to work closely with Motorola's customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams. Self-motivated to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations Ability to read and understand equipment schematics and diagrams. Proficient in use of various communications test devices and equipment including: System Analyzers, Power Meters, etc. Travel/Location: Due to schedule, travel and obligations to be on-site at the customer location, candidates must be located in Southern California, US
