JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant supports the Assistant Controller in maintaining accurate, timely, and consistent accounting and financial reporting for terminal operations and corporate activities. This role is responsible for executing core general ledger accounting tasks, including journal entries, reconciliations, expense and revenue support, and close activities. The Senior Accountant works closely with terminal personnel and corporate finance to ensure revenues, expenses, SG&A costs, and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, and recorded in accordance with Company accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Controller.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and standard monthly entries.
Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations and resolve or escalate reconciling items as appropriate.
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by meeting close deadlines and providing complete, well‑supported accounting deliverables.
Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and properly supported in accordance with Company policies and U.S. GAAP.
Support accurate accounting for terminal‑level revenues and expenses, including cut‑off and completeness considerations.
Review transactional activity from terminals and partner with local managers to validate coding, costs, and supporting documentation.
Assist with accounting and classification of corporate and terminal‑level SG&A expenses, including invoice review, accruals, and cost center assignments.
Review, code, and reconcile corporate credit card activity and employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with Company travel and expense policies.
Maintain prepaid expense schedules, perform monthly amortization, and reconcile balances to the general ledger.
Perform account‑level expense analysis (e.g., utilities, repairs & maintenance) to identify unusual trends or errors and escalate findings to the Assistant Controller.
Support revenue‑related accounting activities, including review of monthly tank listings and reconciliation to contract and operational data.
Assist in identifying revenue variances or inconsistencies and provide supporting analysis for review by the Assistant Controller.
Prepare variance analyses, schedules, and supporting documentation for management, QBRs, and internal reporting.
Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and workpapers in support of external audits and internal reviews.
Respond to ad‑hoc accounting and reporting requests from finance leadership, as assigned.
Execute internal controls related to assigned accounting areas, including reconciliations, reviews, and documentation standards.
Maintain organized, audit‑ready workpapers and supporting documentation.
Assist with documentation of accounting procedures and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with Company accounting policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
