The Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) team helps enterprise customers modernize their VMware-based workloads on AWS. We're rapidly expanding our capabilities to support customers migrating from on-premises environments to AWS at cloud scale. Our team fosters a culture of innovation, ownership, and knowledge-sharing. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, creating an environment that celebrates mentorship through one-on-one coaching and thorough code reviews. We work closely with AWS platform teams and partners like Broadcom to deliver seamless integrations and revolutionary solutions for enterprise workloads.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, or Bachelor of Arts degree
• 6+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java
• Hands on deep technical experience with VMware technologies, including, ESXi, vSAN, NSX and VCF
• Experience with distributed systems at scale
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, including software-defined networking, BGP, BFD, and IP routing. Deep knowledge of the OSI model, with a focus on Layer 2 (Data Link) and Layer 3 (Network) protocols and their interactions.

We are looking for a Systems Development Engineer to build new capabilities to help customers run VMware-based workloads on AWS. The AWS Commercial Applications team within Amazon EC2 defines and builds integrations with external software applications running in cloud environments and helps to modernize enterprise customer workloads. Our team just announced Amazon EVS and is expanding and continuing to build new capabilities for our customers migrating and running VMware-based workloads on AWS. Key job responsibilities As a SysDE in the VMware team, you'll work alongside other builders, principal engineers, and business leaders to create new capabilities that provide enhanced experience for our customers running VMware workloads. All team members actively participate in product definition, technical architecture reviews, iterative development, code review, and operations. Along with this, you'll have the opportunity to interact with customers to understand and ensure their needs are met. Clear, professional, verbal and written communication with teammates and customers is an important part of the job. Our SysDE's are expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of VMware deployments, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), ESXi, vSAN, and NSX. Strong proficiency in automating software deployments and operations using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PowerShell is essential. You will be leading performance testing and/or bench marking of AWS infrastructure for VMware workloads and driving continuous improvements. You will design and implement software-defined networking solutions, such as virtual switches and overlay networks, to enable flexible and programmable network infrastructure. You will be inventing the foundation for the next phase of the products and beyond. A commitment to teamwork, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. Creating a reliable, scalable, and high-performance service requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems. You should enjoy working on complex systems, be customer-centric, and have a proven track record of building exceptionally high quality software that delights customers.
