Job Description Summary The Door Hardware & Locksmith Technician performs skilled installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of commercial doors, frames, locking systems, panic devices, closers, and architectural hardware throughout the University campus. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience with institutional or commercial door systems, including hardware alignment, door adjustments, hardware replacement, keying systems, and code-compliant repairs. Experience working in healthcare, higher education, commercial construction, or facilities maintenance environments is strongly preferred. *This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. Job Description Essential Functions: Installs, repairs, maintains, and adjusts commercial door hardware, locking systems, and related security components across University facilities. Performs troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on doors, frames, closers, panic hardware, hinges, locksets, mortise locks, cylinders, and electrified hardware to ensure proper operation and code compliance. Installs, rekeys, repairs, and maintains mechanical and electronic locking systems, including key cores, master key systems, and access-related hardware. Diagnoses and resolves operational issues involving door alignment, hardware fitment, latching, opening/closing functions, and hardware failures. Performs preventive maintenance inspections on campus door systems and security hardware to improve reliability, safety, and lifecycle performance. Coordinates and completes installation of new door hardware associated with renovation, renewal, and capital improvement projects. Reads and interprets hardware schedules, construction drawings, manufacturer specifications, and technical documents related to architectural door hardware systems. Assists with maintaining campus security by responding to lockouts, urgent repairs, and after-hours emergency service requests as required. Maintains accurate records related to keys, hardware inventory, work orders, preventive maintenance activities, and security documentation within the University's maintenance management systems. Collaborates with Facilities, Campus Police/Security, Housing, and project teams to support secure, accessible, and functional campus environments. Ensures compliance with applicable building codes, fire and life safety requirements, ADA accessibility standards, and University policies and procedures. Operates and maintains tools, equipment, lifts, and University vehicles in a safe and professional manner. Recommends replacement or upgrade strategies for aging or failed door and hardware systems to improve campus safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Supports campus-wide initiatives related to access control, building security, deferred maintenance, and asset renewal planning. Performs other duties as assigned in support of Facilities, Real Estate, and Planning Other Functions: Provide excellent service to internal and external department customers. Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate Supervisor and to the Safety Director if necessary. Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures. This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management.
