About the role

Service Stream's Utilities division is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our growing Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of wastewater and water infrastructure, supporting the ongoing reliability of treatment plants and network assets across Yarra Valley Water's Northern Service Delivery area. Responsibilities

  • The Mechanical Fitter will carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks to assets and processes including, but not limited to:
  • Planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical assets, including pumps, valves, pipework, and treatment plant equipment
  • Respond to and rectify mechanical equipment failures in a timely and effective manner
  • Undertake fault finding and diagnosis of mechanical systems and processes
  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance to optimise asset performance
  • Install, align, and maintain rotating equipment and associated plant
  • Complete programmed maintenance and minor mechanical works
  • Assist with commissioning and decommissioning of mechanical assets and plant
  • Provide technical support to engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel
  • Work collaboratively within the Mechanical & Electrical team to support cross-discipline delivery and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in rostering to ensure continuous operation of critical infrastructure
  • Engage with external contractors and stakeholders to support efficient delivery of maintenance and minor works
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
  • Ensure all decisions are made with commercial considerations.
  • Support and mentor apprentices to build trade capability and workforce development
  • Demonstrate strong safety leadership and promote best practice maintenance standards across all activities
  • Participate in an afterhours call out roster
  • About You
  • Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter (or equivalent)
  • Experience in water, wastewater, utilities, or industrial maintenance environments (highly regarded)
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • Current MR Drivers Licence.
  • Experience on wastewater treatment plants and all equipment located within the plant (Desirable)
  • Experience in the Water industry or similar industry
  • National Licence to perform High Risk work (Desirable)
  • Trade Certificate in a relevant mechanical discipline
  • Willingness to upskill and undertake additional training for ongoing development
  • Successful applicants must obtain and maintain a satisfactory critical infrastructure background check in accordance with AusCheck requirements (mandatory)
