About the role
Performs basic life support (BLS) services and assists in emergency medical, traumatic, psychiatric care, and stabilization for patients in accidents or illness scenes and during transportation to medical facilities and/or during interfacility transports. Serves as a member of a two member ambulance crew responding to emergency and nonemergency calls. Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed. Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed. Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment. Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts, and moves victims from scene of accident or catastrophe. Establishes an equipment inspection schedule and verifies that all equipment is being inspected and reviewed for compliance and makes recommendations for risk reductions on workplace injuries. Cleans and decontaminates ambulance after transporting or treating any patient. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED within 2 years of hire Less than 1 year Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations. Ability to multi-task and to utilize critical thinking. Ability to drive an ambulance safely under various weather conditions. Demonstrates and adheres to program policies and procedures regarding ambulance safety and transport communications. Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
