Job Summary: To perform the duties of the Grossing Technician per the Laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Grossing Technician will adhere to and support our culture of compliance and safety by following all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with attention to detail, accuracy and professionalism at all times.
Schedule: Full Time, 30+ hours. Availability Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Grossing Technician I: Daily essential function of the Grossing Technician are listed below. Details on how each function is to be performed is outlined in the SOP manual. The SOP manual is to be reviewed by all Grossing Technician upon hire, when any updates occur and annually.
Performs tissue description, dissection, and sectioning for optimal diagnostic evaluation of small uncomplicated skin specimens such as shaves, punches and excisions
Reviews specimens for completeness and accuracy, including site and patient identification
Selects appropriate processing times and special procedures for tissues (nails, alopecias, hair mounts)
Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems involving methodology, technique, and instrumentation utilization in the gross area/room
Performs maintenance and quality control on instruments as applicable
Maintains a safe working environment
Monitors supply and inventory
Perform other histology-related work as needed (embedding, microtomy, block/slide filing) once properly trained on all related SOPs prior to completing any work
Actively supports and assists in implementation and monitoring of quality control and quality assurance policies
