Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: This role is responsible for performing groundskeeping duties to ensure The Salvation Army's facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner in accordance with the applicable standards and requirements. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Incumbents may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below. - Carry out assigned duties and respond to unexpected operational needs as directed by the supervisor. - Complete daily duty logs and follow work order procedures. - Communicate outstanding operational issues to the appropriate staff according to established protocols. - Support grounds maintenance activities and coordinate work with contracted service providers when required. - Assist with seasonal tasks to keep grounds, sidewalks, and outdoor structures clean and safe. - Other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: - Work is performed outdoors on the grounds. (5 Cemeteries: 2 in Bonavista, 1 in Elliston, 1 in Little Catalina and 1 in Catalina. Also includes Church grounds.) - The performance of the job requires frequent use of cleaning equipment and tools. - Moderate to high levels of attention and concentration when using electrical or mechanical equipment. - Physical stamina and the ability to lift, carry or pull/push objects up to 50 lbs. are usually required. - The work environment is generally positive; however, the incumbent may occasionally interact with individuals displaying challenging behaviours. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: - Completion of Grade 12 is a minimum requirement for this role. Experience and Knowledge Requirements: - Five years of related experience is a minimum requirement for this role. - Familiarity with various cleaning techniques, equipment, and cleaning agents. - Basic computer skills. - An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable. . Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion. Skills and Capabilities: - Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. - Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. - Ability to identify and address minor cleaning and maintenance issues independently and determine when to refer matters to a supervisor. - Good oral and written communication skills. - Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Disciplined and adaptable, with a willingness to learn. - Demonstrated attention to detail with good problem-solving skills. - Demonstrated patience, understanding, and professionalism in all interactions. - High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics, with a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. - Physical stamina and the ability to lift, carry or pull/push objects up to 50 lbs. This is for a temporary part time position.
