In this role, you'll help lead day-to-day site activities, support the crew on the tools and plant, and keep work moving safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is a hands-on role where Good Work gets done side by side. Mō te tūranga | About the role As a Civil Construction Leading Hand, you'll work closely with the Foreman and site crew to deliver a range of civil construction works across the West Coast region. It's a practical, outdoors role where you'll lead from the front, help coordinate daily workflow, operate machinery, and step up when needed to keep the job on track. You'll make a real difference by helping the team deliver safe, high-quality work for our customers and communities. Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities Lead by example on site, supporting the crew to deliver work safely, on time, and to the expected quality standard. Assist the Foreman with daily workflow, task coordination, and pre-start planning so everyone is clear on the job ahead. Operate machinery and handheld equipment to complete tasks related to civil works. Check plant, machinery, and equipment are in good working order. Support less experienced team members with on-the-job guidance and safe operating practices. Keep safety front of mind by taking part in risk planning, speaking up when something is not right, and helping maintain a clean, tidy worksite. Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We're looking for someone with Recent and relevant experience in civil and structural works, with the confidence to lead from the front in a hands-on site environment. A current Class 2 licence and WTR endorsements. The ability to read and interpret building plans and drawings. Experience operating a range of machinery and hand-held equipment. A strong commitment to safety, quality, and doing the job properly every time. A collaborative leadership style with the confidence to communicate clearly and support the wider team. A willingness to learn, share ideas, and look for better ways of getting the job done.
