Position Hourly Range: Airport Civil Inspector III: $32.49 - $40.23/hr Airport Civil Inspector II: $29.47 - $36.47/hr Airport Civil Inspector I: $26.72 - $33.09/hr *based on qualifications and experience. Conducts field inspections to confirm project quality, regulatory conformity, and contract compliance. Acts as a liaison between project teams, contractors, and Division stakeholders to communicate requirements, schedule impacts, and relevant project information. Participates in pre-construction and weekly construction coordination meetings to establish expectations, clarify milestones, and support collaborative problem-solving. Maintains clear and accurate project records, including daily reports, testing results, as-built documentation, and construction logs. Supports verification of completed work quantities to facilitate accurate contractor payments. Utilizes engineering software, GIS tools, and measurement techniques to assist with design reviews, project analysis, and documentation. Reviews safety practices-including traffic control, trenching, confined space procedures, and public protection-to promote safe work environments. Oversees compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, and ensures alignment with Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) policies and procedures. Responsible for the inspection of airfield and landside electrical, water, sewer, storm drain, grading, paving, and striping on runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways, parking lots, and utility corridors. Performs routine inspection tasks while providing guidance to level I and level II Inspectors. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Airport Civil Inspector III:
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of construction or utility experience; one year of which must have been performing public infrastructure or utility inspection.
  • Two (2) years of post-high-school education in a construction related field (construction management, engineering, etc.) may be substituted for two (2) years of the experiential requirement.
  • Incumbents must obtain re: American Public Works Association (APWA) Certified Public Infrastructure Inspection (CPII) certification or department approved equivalent within 6 months of hire date.
  • Knowledge of utility, building, and zoning codes and applicable local, state, and federal code.
  • Knowledge of construction standards, civil inspection methods and testing procedures pertaining to paving, grading, utilities, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control.
  • Ability to read plans, use computer applications, and perform basic construction related math.
