Currently enrolled in a college or university as a Sophomore or greater
Candidate would preferably be pursuing a degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related field
GPA of 3.0 or better preferred
Previous internship or co-op experience in manufacturing environment a plus
Required Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to understand and interpret safety regulations and standards
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis
Team collaboration and interpersonal skills
Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must pass pre-employment assessment
Drug screening required
Background check required
Ability to work across multiple facility locations (Williamsburg and Newport News)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The associate will be exposed to both office and manufacturing environments where requirements may include but are not limited to:
Capability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
Extended periods of sitting for data analysis and computer work
Extended periods of standing and walking during facility inspections and training sessions
Ability to climb stairs and ladders during facility audits
Visual acuity for detailed data review and safety observations
Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses) during facility visits
WORK CONDITIONS:
Tasks will be performed in both office and manufacturing settings with exposure to:
Office environment for data analysis and report preparation
Manufacturing facilities with noise levels above 80 dB
Manufacturing equipment and machinery during inspections
Solvents, fumes and industrial chemicals during facility visits
Variable temperatures between facilities and work areas
Must be able to work flexible schedule across two facility locations
May require occasional evenings or weekends for training sessions or special projects
Duration: Summer 2026 (approximately 10-12 weeks)

The EHS Intern will support both Newport News and Williamsburg VA plants, and report to the EHS Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Safe Start Program Implementation:
Continue SafeStart education and reinforcement training at Williamsburg facility
Support launch and rollout of SafeStart program at Newport News location
Assist with training material development and employee engagement activities
Facilitate safety training sessions and workshops
Safety Data Analysis & Audit Support:
Collaborate with Newport News Safety Team on comprehensive safety audit reviews
Conduct follow-up analysis on audit findings and corrective action tracking
Review and analyze Near Miss incident reports to identify common risk factors and trending patterns
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on safety performance metrics
Strategic Planning Support:
Analyze safety performance data and metrics from both facilities
Support development of comprehensive FY27 safety plan and goal-setting
Assist with benchmarking and best practice research
Participate in safety improvement programs/projects including behavioral observations and continuous improvement initiatives
