Pay Range: $33.80-$46.22 Hourly The City of Arvada is seeking a Municipal Inspector to perform field inspections of public infrastructure projects and ensure compliance with city standards, engineering specifications, and approved construction plans. Essential Job Functions Inspects construction of public capital improvements development projects and maintenance programs as part of the City of Arvada team. Inspections include full scope of all city infrastructure. Assures general compliance of construction and materials with approved plans, project specifications and City of Arvada engineering code and state laws and local ordinances. Facilitates pre-construction, construction, and worksite meetings with contractors and developers, City project managers and engineers, and other stakeholders. Clarifies and reviews City procedures, standards, and project specifications, provides technical guidance in answering questions, develops solutions to resolving problems, and oversees corrective actions to ensure compliance with standards and contract specifications. Interprets construction plans and specifications; prepares and makes recommendations on change orders; confers with City engineering staff on design problems encountered in the field. Reviews as-built drawings for projects. Inspects stored materials on and offsite to ensure quality and checks records to verify the installation of materials and equipment used against submittals for payment. Inspects and modifies traffic control plans and coordinates road closures with emergency services and other City departments and agencies and ensures safety protocols are in place and compliant with safety standards and regulations. Inspects potable and non-potable water systems and sanitary sewer systems, including installation, testing, maintenance and repair, storm water drainage systems. Inspects concrete street improvements, including sidewalks, drive approaches, ADA ramps, block walls, and other elements; inspects asphalt concrete street paving and other surface treatments; ensures correct street sections checking grades and elevations. Observes earthwork grading, slope construction, earthen berms and surface drainage, reviews soils compaction reports and grading certificates. Works with independent testing laboratories to coordinate the testing of materials, soils, and concrete as required by project specifications, and maintains records for project reports. Reviews and approves or denies compaction and test reports for developments. Prepares reports detailing construction progress, to include notes on inspections, lab reports, changes orders, daily work logs with specific instructions and directions, payment requests, and maintains files and project documents. Maintains necessary records of daily operations, including daily project reports, time reports and vehicle reports. Performs final inspection of construction projects for acceptance; prepares list of required corrections prior to field acceptance; approves the issuance of certificates of occupancy. Responds to citizen complaints and inquiries regarding construction activities and provides information and updates to address issues and problems. Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City. Other Job Functions During natural disasters, investigates complaints regarding the failure of public works and public utilities systems and facilities, such as broken water and sewer mains and services, gas leaks, roadway and decking problems, and other hazards. Ability to be on-call or work extended hours. Performs other duties as assigned.
