General Description: The School Security Officer (SSO) Area Supervisor provides direct leadership, supervision, and support to SSOs and Traffic Safety Officers within an assigned geographic region. Job Description: Salary Range: $65,604.45 - $88,812.92 Essential Job Functions: Supervises and provides daily work direction as needed to Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) School Security Officers (SSOs) Conducts regular visits to assigned schools to observe security operations, provide guidance to security staff, and support school administrators Ensures consistent implementation of division safety procedures, operational protocols, and professional standards across assigned schools Serves as a point of contact for school administrators regarding safety and security matters Supports school administrators during safety incidents and assists with coordination of response actions when necessary Coordinates with Security Operations Center (SOC) personnel to maintain situational awareness of safety events and ensure effective communication during incidents Provides mentoring, coaching, and guidance to SSOs to promote professional development and effective security practices Participates in the hiring process for SSOs, to include participation in interview panels and the selection process Evaluates the performance of SSOs in accordance with division procedures and with input from school administrators Ensures SSOs complete required training, certifications, and documentation in accordance with division and regulatory requirements Conducts safety and security assessments of assigned schools and identifies opportunities for improvement in safety practices Assists with investigations and documentation related to safety incidents, when necessary Analyzes incident reports and operational information to identify trends and recommend improvements to safety operations Participates in safety planning meetings, training activities, and operational coordination efforts May perform other duties as assigned Budgetary Responsibility: Assists the Field Operations Manager in identifying resource needs Report Preparation: Ensures the timely and consistent completion of security assessments, incident reports, and officer training documentation; may produce other reports as requested Equipment Operation: Proficiency with division-wide security technologies, communication systems, and emergency management software Contacts: Maintains frequent and regular contact with school principals, SSOs, SOC personnel, and public safety partners Work Direction/Supervision: Provides daily work direction and supervises SSOs and Traffic Safety Officers within their assigned region Decision-Making: A high level of independent decision-making is required for real-time problem solving and resource deployment during daily operations and emergency events. Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: May provide feedback and recommendations for the standardization of security procedures and professional standards division-wide, as requested Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to reach and handle equipment, and to talk and hear clearly. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and travel to various school campuses within their assigned region. Work Environment: Work is performed in both professional office settings and active school environments. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Considerable knowledge of public safety principles, field supervision, and school security protocols. Demonstrated ability to supervise a technical and professional staff, conduct complex safety evaluations, and maintain collaborative relationships with school-level leadership.
