We study how people decide and behave in real financial contexts, synthesise theory and the latest scientific evidence, and use that insight to develop, test and improve services for customers, colleagues and communities. Our work helps customers make more informed, safer and more confident financial decisions, and supports staff wellbeing and effectiveness. We work on some of the most important behavioural challenges in financial services, including financial wellbeing, the psychology of scams and fraud, and best practice in human-centred AI. Our Behavioural Science Centre of Excellence was established in 2016 to bring evidence, experimentation and behavioural insight into decisions that shape customer, community and staff outcomes. Over the past decade, we have helped millions of people choose products, set budgets, pay down debt, claim benefits, avoid scams and use banking technologies in safer and more beneficial ways. You will join a specialist team that works closely with leading Australian and international researchers, and with internal specialists across product, technology, strategy and customer experience. Together, we deliver financial services innovations, leading research outputs and measurable business, customer and community outcomes. Few behavioural science roles offer this combination of scientific depth, real customer decision contexts, large-scale experimentation, senior influence and direct pathways from evidence to product and service change. Behavioural Scientist roles will suit experienced behavioural science practitioners who can lead complex applied projects, design and interpret high-quality research, influence product and service teams, and translate evidence into practical recommendations. Senior Behavioural Scientist roles will suit behavioural science leaders who can also own portfolios of work, lead and develop people, advise senior leaders, represent CommBank externally, and help shape the future direction of the Centre. In any given week, you will: Lead applied behavioural science projects, from problem framing through to evidence synthesis, experiment design, analysis, interpretation and recommendation Identify high-value opportunities where behavioural science can improve customer, community or business outcomes Design, oversee and interpret large-scale experiments, including randomised controlled trials, lab and field studies and natural experiments Use AI tools carefully and rigorously to improve research quality, speed, scale and impact Translate behavioural evidence into practical recommendations that product, risk, technology, strategy and customer teams can act on Influence senior leaders and specialist teams to use behavioural science in decision-making, service design and customer outcomes Communicate scientific insights through clear recommendations, compelling narratives and executive-ready materials Design and deliver engaging behavioural science workshops for cross-functional teams. We are interested to hear from you if you have: Deep understanding of behavioural science, including theories, frameworks, methods, controversies, limitations, and emerging directions Proven applied research skills, including high-quality evidence synthesis, experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and impactful project delivery Strong understanding of inferential statistics and proficiency in analysis, with R and Python preferred Demonstrated ability to use contemporary tools and technologies, including AI, to amplify your skills and impact The ability to translate research insights into practical solutions that improve customer, community, staff or business outcomes The ability to influence people outside your discipline, including senior leaders and specialist teams Excellent storytelling and presentation skills, including the ability to e
