Design and physical build of automated cells, including robotics and assembly equipment.
Support maintenance and preventative maintenance activities for automated equipment.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with automated machinery, robotics, PLCs, and controls.
Program, modify, and optimize PLC logic and robotic paths (Fanuc).
Assist in wiring, building, and modifying electrical control panels.
Perform mechanical, electrical, and controls‑related adjustments during production and changeovers.
Support new automation projects including concepting, prototyping, and implementation of new cells.
Provide mentorship to junior technicians when required.
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Setup, and Production teams.
Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
Completion of post‑secondary education in a Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or similar field (2-4‑year diploma or degree).
Technical aptitude in electrical systems and/or PLC controls.
Computer literacy including MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
Ability to read and interpret technical documents including schematics, electrical prints, and pneumatic diagrams.
Strong aptitude and troubleshooting capabilities for electrical, mechanical and control systems.
Experience in robot programming and code writing.
Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting
Mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience adjusting, repairing, and maintaining automation equipment.
Ability to follow written instructions and documented procedures.
Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Job Summary
The Mechatronics Automation Technician contributes directly to Canplas' manufacturing excellence by ensuring the optimal operation of automated cells, including robots, assembly units, PLC‑controlled systems, and related equipment. This role supports strategic business goals through improved throughput, reduced downtime, and continuous improvement of automated processes.
The starting pay rate for this role is $37.62/hour
