About Oil and Gas Technology:
OGT is a team of around 200 scientists and engineers who develop and provide pioneering solutions to support bp's Production and Operations (P&O) and Gas and Low Carbon Energy (G&LCE) businesses.
The Reservoir Recovery Unit sits in OGT team, part of Applied Sciences Technology. The team is part of the 60-strong Subsurface and Wells group, working closely with P&O to develop innovative technological solutions addressing both near- and longer-term challenges. The Reservoir Recovery Unit is the home of the Dynamic Displacement laboratory, which provides unique experimental capability and delivers data across waterflood/gasflood, special core analysis (SCAL, including relative permeability), enhanced oil recovery, production assurance (production chemistry) and wells technology.
You will join the Reservoir Recovery Laboratory team, leading lab-based experimentation in support of regional studies.
Job Purpose and primary objectives:
You will lead project elements within programmes, conduct experiments, be involved in experiment design and complete quality assurance to provide data and insights to the P&O/G&LCE stakeholders. You will also design improvements to existing equipment and propose potential new equipment with a view to ensuring the lab remains fit for the future.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead R&D and technical service experimental projects.
Measure and quality‑assure laboratory data using advanced equipment under a wide range of chemical and physical conditions, including reservoir conditions, following defined procedures.
Conduct all laboratory activities in a safe manner, a role model for orderly operating environment shared with other Laboratory staff- Meet BP's safety standards in all aspects of the role and support equipment operators in meeting safety expectations including Control of Work and Inspection and Maintenance.
Record and assess laboratory results using customized technical software, identify data trends & anomalies and make recommendations for continuous improvements/alterations to laboratory work programmes.
Design new laboratory methods
Prepare data and report to the lab technical delivery lead as well as project leaders and business stakeholders in-company and at third-party organisations.
Primary Skills:
At least five years of strong laboratory‑based scientific experience, including expertise in SCAL and reservoir‑condition experiments.
Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
Sound understanding of engineering and instrument requirements, with strong knowledge of safety requirements.
