POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Supports unit orientation and sets behavioral expectations during the patient stay on the unit. Assists in implementing delegated treatment plan interventions. The Behavioral Health Technician is highly vigilant in supervising and minimizing risks of all patients. Due to the high visibility and significant patient interaction, this position is frequently the first responder to a variety of patient situations i.e. codes, behavioral outburst, attempts to introduce contraband and medical issues. The Behavioral Health Technician establishes rapport and trust with patients and adjusts therapeutic approach to acuity, age, gender and cultural considerations. Job Description: SCHEDULE: 12 hour NIGHT shift (5:30p-6a / 5:30a-6p) Every 3rd weekend required Holiday rotation required UNIT DETAILS (Behavioral Health- Neenah Hospital): This 19 bed unit serves a great purpose in the community treating various health needs. Our compassionate team is comprised of Psychiatric hospitalists, RN's, CNA's, Occupational Therapists, mental health therapists, utilization specialists, and administrative professionals. This environment allows for collaboration and learning on a daily basis. Our team is dedicated to the highest quality of care and fosters great learning opportunities. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Assist RN in maintaining and managing a safe and therapeutic environment for the patients. Maintains line of sight supervision of assigned patients at all times. Constantly walks the unit observing each patient in the common areas as well as his/her room. Provides care to patients in a manner that ensures patients' safety, protection of patient's rights, maximal patient comfort, and the optimal therapeutic environment. Observes patient behavior and notifies unit nurse, therapist and other appropriate staff of pertinent information for action and documentation in the progress notes. Serves as a role model for patients by consistently displaying positive and appropriate attitude, behavior, language, attire and appearance, etc. Defuses and reports crisis situations, intervening when appropriate and uses proper procedures. Assists with physical interventions with patients in response to required codes while under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or Nurse Manager. Documents patients' behaviors and activities according to established policies and guidelines. Orients patient and family/significant others to the unit and hospital. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment by assisting with groups, setting limits on patients; following established safety and risk management policies and procedures.
