About the role
Working as part of Instrumentation Maintenance team, the technician is responsible for maintenance tasks, repairs, calibration, and adjustments of all laboratory equipment, and assisting with and assembling proprietary devices for the group. The technician will use correct methods, procedures, and manuals, adhere to safe practices, and work in adherence with the ALS health and safety program. Specific Responsibilities Perform technical support using diagnostic and service manuals under supervision; Do and assist with repairs on analytical laboratory equipment; Perform routine preventive maintenance; Perform corrective maintenance tasks; Calibration, adjustments, specific measurements, and data logging as requested or required by service manuals; Do or assist with checks, repairs, or manipulation with supporting systems like cooling, gas supply, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; Electronic/electrical and mechanical fabrication on custom equipment and tools; Assist with development and do modifications of devices under development; Assist the team with shop organization and parts storage inventory; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned; Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities An aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems; Ability to read technical manuals and schematics; Excellent technical and analytical skills required; Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal; Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to work under general supervision and complete assigned duties as per agreed deadlines and established schedules; Experience with electronic fabrication as an asset; Ability to use small hand and power tools; Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, multi-meters, thermometers, data loggers; Ability to work independently but be a team player; Proficient in computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook; Safety oriented; Required Qualifications High school graduation required; Post-secondary engineering / electrical/electronic courses an asset; 2 years' experience in the electronics or a related electronics technology field required. Physical Demands Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves, etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; Ability to lift up to 40 pounds; Our Benefits Include An estimated hourly pay of $32.63 CAD at the time of posting.
