Responsibilities

  • As a Fleet Technician III you can expect to:
  • Conduct routine and annual inspections and performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles, trains and reviews the work of lower-level technicians.
  • Inspect, diagnose, disassemble, remove, clean, and replace defective parts/systems, and adjust to specified performance standards for assigned fleet vehicles.
  • Perform minor overhaul of engines and diagnose and repair engine and powertrain control systems using standard diagnostic equipment
  • Perform minor overhaul of front, rear, and all-wheel drive systems; manual, automatic, constant velocity transmission (CVT), electronic transmissions, standard and limited slip differentials, and electric and manual transfer cases
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle emission systems, and replace braking systems including anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and traction control systems
  • Perform minor repair of vehicle power plants and electrical systems. Repair charging, starting, and electrical systems. Repair electronically and mechanically controlled hydraulic systems
  • Repair vehicle heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), belts, hoses, water pumps, and related parts including refrigerant recycling and all component repair and replacement and exhaust systems
  • Repair suspension and steering systems. Performs two and four-wheel alignments on equipment using standard equipment and electronically controlled steering systems
  • Repair passive (airbags) and active restraint systems including collision avoidance, parking aid, occupant classification systems, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and apparatus
  • Fabricate, weld, and repair parts using standard welding techniques and tools which includes design and installation of specialized equipment and mounting systems
  • Install and repair specialized safety or City-required equipment suc

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $34.00-$38.00. Specific scheduling requirements for this position include are comprised of 4 10-hour flexible shifts as follows:Days: Sunday through Wednesday 6:00am - 4:30pmNights: Sunday through Wednesday 4:00pm-2:30amDays: Wednesday through Saturday 6:00am-4:30pmNights: Wednesday through Saturday: 4:00pm-2:30amAll swing shifts receive a 7% pay differential; You may be placed on any of these shifts upon hire. Employees are allowed to bid on a preferred shift once per year. Bid order is determined by employee hire date.Additional shift responsibilities may include:On Call Snow Overtime: 3:30am to 3:30pm or 3:30pm to 3:30amMandatory extended/additional shifts are required for snow removal operationsIf staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays).Dental insuranceVision insurancePaid time offFlexible scheduleEquity / stock options
