Lemoine III (00079538)) Work Location: LSU - Alexandria Pay Grade: Classified Technician and Skilled Trades Job Description: Job Description for Custodian 2: GENERAL: Serves on a Custodial Crew providing services to Academic and Administrative buildings with over 2,500 students and 220 faculty and staff. These services are performed in a variety of nontraditional environments including specialized computer systems, laboratories, libraries, special exhibits/collections, studios, shops, and numerous other specialized technical areas. Performs more complex tasks requiring higher skill levels than those performed by a Custodian 1. High degree of public contact and interaction with Faculty, Staff, and students. Frequent contacts with general public through support provided for continuing education programs, seminars, institutes, workshops, and conferences. Requires a working knowledge of the campus intra structure, programs and services. Requires participation in special maintenance, safety, and other training programs. Quality of service provided impacts the University's contractual agreement through private grants, Federal Programs, other educational and research institutions and services provided on a for fee basis. Services provided or not provided can have a critical impact on academic activities, improperly applied services can cause failure of programs or systems involving thousands of dollars and extensive man-hours. Position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgement based on experience, and a working knowledge of campus facilities and programs. 30% Cleans laboratories, studios, facilities, and other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing. Works in area requiring a higher degree of knowledge and skill related to that specific area. May be required to work around or handle hazardous materials. May be required to clean laboratory equipment, glassware. May work in offices for University Officials such as the Chancellor. Mixes or blends routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for these various tasks. 20% Empties trash and recycling containers, transports waste material to outdoor refuse containers or recycling containers as appropriate. May be responsible for removing and disposing of autoclave bio-hazardous waste. Determines by visual inspection if material is acceptable or unacceptable for recycling, according to written standards. Makes recommendation to supervisor regarding frequency of pickup, acceptability of material, location and size of collection containers. As necessary, cleans, decontaminates and deodorizes waste containers using proper materials according to label directions. 15% Cleans, strips, waxes and polishes floors using industrial size mops, and/or commercial type floor machines. Uses commercial strippers, waxers, floor sealers, cleaners and pads according to label directions for correct dilution and application. 10% Operates wet/dry vacuum, carpet extraction equipment, other commercial equipment as required for cleaning and shampooing carpets or cleaning up after water leaks or floods. 10% Washes building interior windows, walls, fixtures, uses power blower to blow off debris from sidewalks, steps, and entrance ways to building. 5% Unlocks/locks campus buildings utilizing assigned buildings, room and master keys. Has responsibility for security of all keys issued as part of daily assignment. 5% Moves, and sets up tables, chairs, partitions, sign stanchions and other related equipment used for special events such as registration, testing, etc. May move or rearrange office furniture and fixtures. 5% May perform a variety of other tasks including one or more of the following: Carries note pad and pencil to record maintenance problems found in buildings; reports the maintenance needs of buildings and equipment to supervisors on a daily basis.
