The Ministry of Health is seeking a Principal Policy Analyst to join the Māori Health Strategy & Policy team. In this role, you will drive the development of strategic policy advice to improve system performance and Māori health outcomes. Lead complex, cross-system policy and strategy work to implement the Māori Health Strategy and improve system performance for Māori and all New Zealanders Translate strategic direction into clear policy, legislative, monitoring and accountability settings across the health system Integrate data, evidence, and community insight to inform policy priorities, track progress, and support continuous improvement Work effectively in ambiguity, navigating competing priorities, trade-offs, and political contexts Lead projects and portfolios with a strategic and tactical focus, ensuring work is well planned, strategically aligned, and delivered effectively Build strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders to provide senior technical guidance to inform decision-making and shape work programmes that best serve the needs of Māori Enhance team capability through coaching, mentoring, and quality assurance, while contributing to robust, end-to-end policy processes. What you'll bring - Ko ngā pūkenga ōu An appropriate tertiary level professional qualification and relevant work experience in policy settings Proven ability to operate at Principal level, exercising sound judgement in ambiguous, high-stakes environments and influencing senior decision-makers Strong systems thinking demonstrated through shaping policy, commissioning, or performance frameworks across complex systems A deep understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in policy and legislation contexts Demonstrated experience in developing and advising on complex policy issues and influencing and managing a range of complex stakeholders Highly developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles, including providing policy advice to Ministers.
