Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Assists the project management team to develop proposals, estimates and project schedules.
As requested, assists in the development of proposals and presentations to clients.
Ability to develop well written assessments addressing code implications and basis of design in the development of HVAC systems.
Design overall HVAC systems, assuring project compliance with codes and standards.
Uses design software to prepare engineering and design documents.
Perform HVAC design calculations to support equipment selections such as fans, air handling units, heat exchangers, chillers, etc.
Size and design ductwork and piping (chilled water, heating hot water, etc.) distribution.
Evaluate and assess existing HVAC system(s).
Prepares engineering studies and schematic designs for new HVAC/Utilities.
Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.
Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data and provide construction support.
Responsible to coordinate the design with other disciplines, attends design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives.
Reviews shop drawings, record changes and communicates directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required.
Performs on-site inspections during construction and coordinates design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers.
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 6 to 10 years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering with specific experience in building mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection systems).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IMC, IECC, and NFPA.
Experience designing hazardous facilities a plus (I.e. Class 1, Division 2).
Experience with Plumbing and Fire Protection design a plus.
Experienced with calculation software and equipment selection programs.
Experienced with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Power point experience a plus.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
