Job Summary: The Service Technician performs work on Wind and CS gearboxes, main shafts, couplings, spare parts, and related components both in the shop and in the field. The technician provides technical expertise at customer sites, adding to or preserving the value of customer assets by efficiently executing service orders and ensuring customer satisfaction. Millwrights, mechanics, or individuals with strong mechanical skills are preferred. The technician will work on various styles of gearboxes and couplings, performing assembly of Wind and CS gearboxes and their sub-assemblies. Work is performed from blueprints, parts lists, and assembly cards and involves the use of parts washers, freezers, ovens, cranes, fork trucks, hand tools, and power tools. The technician will disassemble and assemble gear units, can work independently or with other assemblers, will guide lower grade assemblers, and may perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Essential Responsibilities and Tasks Job Planning and Preparation Participate in planning for assigned jobs, including: Gathering and preparing tools, information, personal protective equipment (PPE), parts, and other items required for the successful execution of the service order Packaging and coordinating with the assigned planner to ensure all required items are received at the proper time and place Making transportation and lodging arrangements and notifying the assigned planner and Field Service Lead for the job Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) prior to every new job. Be present at the worksite, prepared and ready to work at the agreed‑upon time. Manage travel delays and communicate changes in travel plans with the job Lead. Follow all travel‑related policies. Field and Shop Service Activities Perform endoscope inspections, visual inspections, and similar diagnostic procedures on gearboxes and components on wind and industrial units at customer sites. Repair, remove, and/or install gearboxes and components on wind and industrial units at customer sites (e.g., main shafts, pitch tubes, gears, bearings, gearing accessories, brake assemblies, shrink disks, lubrication and filter systems, module sections). Provide supplementary services for customers as assigned by the job Lead. Assist with and support similar responsibilities and tasks in a workshop setting and in the field. Safety, Tools, and Equipment Inspect, properly maintain, and safely operate all PPE, material‑handling equipment, vehicles, rigging, and tools prior to and after every use. Follow all equipment procedures and notify the job Lead or Field Service Manager of missing, broken, or otherwise inadequate resources. Maintain full awareness of surroundings and potential job hazards. Notify the Lead or Field Service Manager of safety concerns or potential equipment issues. Stop working immediately to avoid unsafe practices. Report all incidents and near‑misses. Observe all safety procedures and practices and maintain a safe working environment at heights. Documentation and Customer Requirements Complete and submit all job‑related documents, reports, and administrative processes accurately and in a timely manner. Be diligent in recording all work performed and parts used.
