Job Overview As the Lead Core Gameplay Designer, you will own the end-to-end player experience. You are responsible for the systems that define how the player interacts with the world-combat, traversal, and core loops. You will lead a team of designers to create deep, engaging mechanics that remain satisfying from the first hour to the hundredth. Reports to Design Manager What will you do? Work with Creative and Gameplay director to define for core gameplay systems and their development (e.g., the flow of combat, the weight of movement, or the depth of a progression system). Design complex, interlocking systems that allow for emergent gameplay and player expression. Write and maintain clear, concise Design Documents (GDDs) that serve as a source of truth for the engineering and art teams. Partner with UI/UX teams to ensure mechanics are intuitive and accessible. Lead and grow a team of designers, conducting design reviews and fostering a culture of rapid iteration and constructive critique. What are we looking for? 4+ years in game design and lead positions, with a focus on systems or gameplay, including a lead role on at least one shipped high-profile title. Working within game engines (Unreal Engine 5, Unity, etc.) to prototype and balance mechanics directly. While games uses it's own engine it is quite similar to Unity. Ability to deconstruct successful games and translate those observations into actionable design principles. Ability to pitch ideas and explain "the why" behind design decisions to both stakeholders and technical teams. A strong grasp of UX principles and a passion for accessibility in core gameplay.
