The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting. Essential Functions : Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes infant, pediatric, and Adult clinical care (10%) Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes preventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, general acute care skills, and behavioral health skills (10%) Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes specialty skills such as eating disorders, oncological care, and IV therapy (10%) Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patient's condition and vital signs (10%) Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records (5%) Develop and modify patient care plans as indicated by patient's responses and conditions (5%) Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient's responses and conditions (5%) Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care (5%) Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity (5%) Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel (5%) Prepare patients for, and assist with examinations and treatments (5%) Assess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities to identify potential health or safety problems (5%) Instruct individuals and families on health education and disease prevention and after care (5%) Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent or disabled patients (5%) Medication administration, documentation, and reassessment (5%) Perform Lead/Relief Charge Nurse duties (5%) Education : Associate's Degree Required Work Experience : 1-3 years One year experience in a direct patient care setting Required less than 1 year Correctional Care experience preferred Licenses : BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.
