As a Functional Modeling, Simulation and Control Engineer with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise to design electric propulsion systems for battery-powered aircraft that will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B. Nidec is the world's leading electric motor manufacturer and a true pioneer in electrification across a wide array of industries since its foundation in 1973, ranging from appliance, and energy infrastructure, to ground transportation. Nidec Aerospace is a newly created Joint Venture between Nidec and Embraer which intends to take a leading role in the Electrification of Aircrafts. We are well-positioned and excited to support the aerospace industry in its ambitious transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The ideal candidate will embody Nidec's key pillars of Passion, Enthusiasm, and Tenacity with their passion to learn, enthusiasm to exceed market expectations, and tenacity to solve complex technical issues. From ideation to production, you will work with a diverse and experienced team of design engineers to support aerospace industry leaders and spearhead technological advances in transport decarbonization. Job Description PURPOSE OF ROLE The Functional Modeling, Simulation and Control Engineer is responsible to create system and equipment functional models and run simulations to be used during the Electric Engine development on activities such as Electric Engine dynamic performance and stability analysis, virtual integration of Electric Engine with other equipment of the Propulsion System, failure propagation and safety analysis, and model-based software and firmware development. The Engineer is also responsible for defining the control strategies and control laws for the Electric Engine motor control. On this position the candidate will work in a collaborative cross-functional environment for the development of an Electric Engine. Job Description Creation of low-fidelity and high-fidelity models of the Electric Engine using Matlab and Simulink. Development of model structure considering the functional requirements and equipment/system architecture. Definition of control strategies and control laws. Simulation of dynamic performance and tunning of the controllers to ensure compliance with performance requirements. Evaluation of system stability. Interface with the Systems Engineers and Equipment Engineers to capture the requirements and system architecture that must be implemented in the models. Interface with the customer to present and align the features to be incorporated in the models. Creation of models to be used in Software and Firmware model-based development as per DO-178 and DO-331. Development of test vectors to be used by Software and Firmware supplier for verification. Versioning, storage, and configuration management of the models. Documentation of the models and creation of user manuals. Use of requirement management tools. Development of models to be used in the test benches for hardware-in-the-loop tests. Execution of functional and performance tests on Driver and System rigs.
