If this job class is used to fill the position, the successful candidate will be hired on at the following salary: Civil Engineer: $127,106.00. INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation. The ideal candidate for this position will be a Civil Engineer or Mechanical Engineer that has multi-disciplined public works design experience, ideally in potable water or wastewater, and will have experience in preparing plans and specifications for public bidding projects. They will possess the appropriate education and experience related to the design and construction of potable water conveyance systems; demonstrate the ability to prepare, oversee, coordinate, and review the work of professional and technical personnel; be able to efficiently perform accurate engineering calculations and cost estimates; be proficient in preparing and reviewing complex plans, specifications, legal documents, technical reports, and studies in order to make data-based decisions; and have strong interpersonal as well as communication skills, both verbally and in writing. The ideal candidate will also hold a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Nevada, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months. GENERAL PURPOSE Under direction, performs complex professional engineering work in the research, planning, design and construction of waterworks capital and/or maintenance projects; coordinates the work of professional and technical staff; and performs related duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Theory, principles and practices of civil engineering design and construction; principles of physics and mathematics applicable to civil engineering; principles and techniques of management and supervision, including goals and objectives development and work planning and organization; principles and practices of contract administration and project management and evaluation; principles, modern techniques and equipment used in design, construction and maintenance of various public works projects, including land surveying; strength, properties and uses of construction materials; legal guidelines for public works engineering; public relations; micro-computer applications pertaining to the work.
