Test operates machine to verify dimensions and alignment of assembly, and conformance of finished work piece to specifications for verification of correction of malfunction.
Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated. Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to determine type and dimensions of metal stock required .
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to type of operation and specified material and finish.
Instructs operators or other workers in machine setup and operation.
Changes worn cutting tools and adjusts operation of machine such as cutting speed, feed rate or depth of cut when required .
Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment.
Requirements
Associate's Degree from a two-year college or university in Machining Tool and Die or Machine Tool Programming.
Three years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
