Performs mechanical labor, repair, and maintenance work for City of Dallas HVAC equipment and related systems; performs mechanical, technical, and general manual labor to ensure safe and comfortable environment for City buildings and structures. 2. Troubleshoots, evaluates, and checks electrical components and pneumatic controls on HVAC refrigeration equipment to assist experienced mechanics in making repairs; identifies concerns, determines repairs, and ensures quality work completion. 3. Performs routine preventive and maintenance work on HVAC and refrigeration equipment to maintain service level in city buildings; checks drain lines, clears pipes, and makes necessary repairs; recovers refrigerant in compliance with federal regulations; repairs and replaces electric motors and starters. 4. Installs and repairs small electric motors used in forced air systems; installs and repairs drinking fountains, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, etc.; provides mechanical help and insight to address malfunctioning components. 5 . Transfers knowledge to HVAC Apprentices and other trades helpers to ensure repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment is performed in a safe and efficient manner; responds to "hot and cold calls" to adjust building temperature for tenants. 6. Maintains records of work orders, material requests, etc. to document work progress; monitors supplies and equipment, validates purchase requests, and works with various individuals to determine needs. 7. Performs other trades work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills Technical knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, equipment, and repair tools. Advanced skill in operating hand and portable power tools used in the installation and repair of HVAC systems. Expertise in reading, writing, and comprehending technical descriptions and plans. Advanced knowledge of electrical and mechanical codes related to HVAC installation and repairs. Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions.
