Job Title: Senior Academic Advisor Department: Arts and Sciences | International Studies Job Description The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor fosters student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. The individual in this role advises undergraduate students majoring in International Studies on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides comprehensive one-on-one advising to undergraduate students, counseling them on general education, prerequisite requirements, and major coursework, including course sequencing, minors, dual degrees, and certificates. In doing so, the Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor develops relationships with students that support increasing autonomy and helps them connect academic interests to broader educational and career goals. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor supports students experiencing academic, probationary, and financial challenges, facilitates appropriate academic actions such as add/drops, withdrawals, and program changes, and consistently directs students to relevant campus resources. Through this work, they identify opportunities for new resources and collaborations to enhance student support. In addition to advising, the Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor supports the unit's instructional and operational needs. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor teaches student survey courses, updates course materials, and recommends and implements course improvements. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor supports course change and approval processes and maintains awareness of relevant course offerings across partner units. They contribute to the effective delivery of the curriculum through activities such as course scheduling and classroom coordination, and support departmental operations by participating in graduation activities and special projects. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor also contributes to program assessment and continuous improvement by compiling and analyzing student and program data and assisting with the preparation of annual assessment reports. They support instructional quality by assisting with onboarding new instructors and providing guidance on teaching policies and procedures, including syllabus standards and Carmen compliance. The Senior Undergraduate Academic Advisor assists in coordinating and executing student orientation, including advising activities, materials, and logistics, and collaborates with college and university partners to support the delivery and continuous improvement of orientation programming. They also participate in recruitment events on behalf of the program. Note: Some evenings and weekends required. Minimum Education Required Master's degree is required. Required Qualifications A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required. Deep understanding of programs, specialty areas, and academic and university policies. Demonstrates adaptive relational skills. Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to provide detail, depth, and context. Able to recommend policy, practice, and program changes to unit and/or university leadership. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; trains, interprets, and explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders. Able to support/mentor other advisors on complex topics. Demonstrates sophisticated cultural competence across multiple cultures and/or identities. Able to identify and predict ramifications of current and proposed policies and practices on the student population and their programs. Desired : Four (4) years of relevant experience. Utilizes and integrates historical knowledge of the academic advising profession.
