About the role

Fermilab is seeking a Deputy Installation Manager to join the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Project team. The LBNF/DUNE Project is hosted by Fermilab in Batavia, IL, but includes participation from universities and laboratories worldwide. This position will focus on managing the Far Detector and Cryogenics (FDC) subproject, working closely with Technical Coordinators, Control Account Managers, and international partners to execute one of the largest proposed neutrino experiments in the world. The Installation Manager role is a three-year term appointment, with the potential for extension subject to continued funding and project needs. The position requires domestic and international travel up to 30% and will support activities at the Far Site in Lead, South Dakota. WHAT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WILL LOOK LIKE: Coordinate and execute project management functions for the Far Detector, including setting project objectives, monitoring project activities, and leading project staff. Support procurement readiness, production readiness, and operational readiness review processes, ensuring compliance with procedures and guidelines. Work with Control Account Managers, project controls, and procurement teams to plan and manage Far Detector procurements, tracking packages through subcontract award. Assist in drafting agreements with universities and international partners performing project work and provide oversight of detector production at these sites. Develop and manage cost and schedule estimates, monitor obligations and budgets, and analyze schedules to ensure alignment with project goals. Facilitate change control planning by preparing documentation for review by the LBNF/DUNE Change Control Board. Contribute to key project documents, including Design Reports, Hazard Analyses, Quality Assurance Plans, and Detector Installation Plans. Provide input on work planning documents and hazard analyses to support installation activities at the Far Site. Engage with DUNE Coordination Office and Operations teams to support DUNE Phase 2 planning. Assist with monthly reports and Integrated Subproject Team meetings, preparing presentations and written updates. Lead or participate in project management and FDC subproject team meetings. Support risk management activities and participate in project reviews, including milestone and final reviews. Enhance Fermilab's national and international presence by participating in collaborations and project reviews. Perform other duties as assigned and ensure adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Construction or Engineering Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Business Administration plus 10+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent. Project Management Expertise: Knowledge of cost and schedule management, change control processes, procurement planning, and risk management. Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with SharePoint preferred. Experience using project management databases for change control and risk management. Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentations, reports, and technical writing. Teamwork: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Physical Requirements: Ability to walk and stand for extended periods at construction sites. Travel: Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally. WORK ARRANGEMENT: This is primarily an onsite role supporting activities at Fermilab and the Far Site in Lead, South Dakota.

Additional Information

The expected hiring range for this position is: $111,400.00-$146,600.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
