Job Description Summary: The Supervisor (of Instrument Technicians) leads a team of hourly union technicians specializing in precision mechanical instrument assemblies, electro-optic components and fiber optic sensor integration. The Supervisor works closely with both technical staff and technicians, serving as a bridge to translate staff needs to work plans. The supervisor delegates work assignments, performs performance evaluations, and develops and mentors' assembly technicians. Job Description: Duties/Responsibilities - Supervise ten or more Electrical/Mechanical Assembly Technicians including scheduling daily work assignments, performing annual evaluations, and participate in the hiring process as needed. - Interface with engineering on potential design and build issues, including materials and processes including providing constructive feedback and alternative approaches for consideration. - Collaborate with staff members for input on special applications requiring specific skills and equipment. - Manage the Assembly Lab operations including planning for materials/consumables, preventative maintenance for lab equipment, and ensuring employees are current with required training and certification. - Support the facility planning activities, including research and recommendations for capital equipment purchases. - Screening and tracking incoming work requests including ensuring instructions are complete and accurate with appropriate drawings and models (if needed). - Work with group management and materials planning to ensure customer needs are met. Manage the demand using the Epicor ERP tool suite. - Performs other duties as assigned. Skills/Abilities - Able to interpret and derive assembly instructions. - Able to quickly derive a feasible path forward for submitted assembly demand. - Strong understanding of current industry capabilities and state of the art assembly and fabrication techniques. - Able to mentor employees to ensure career growth. - Familiarity with chemistries used in electronics manufacturing including flux systems, solutions, and various epoxy and coating systems. - Familiarity with electronics assembly processes including fabrication (Screen Printing, Pick-and-Place, Reflow Oven), rework (hand soldering, hot gas rework), validation tools (Xray, inspection microscopy) and cable / harness manufacturing methods and equipment.
