Here, you will make an impact by: Preparing patent applications and prosecuting patents globally Handling opposition, IPR, and litigation-related support activities in IP disputes Acting as direct contact for and interacting with business clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues Performing legal and factual research Providing legal services in the areas of dispute management, transaction services, compliance, advice and counsel, intellectual property or other specialized areas as assigned, and supervision/leadership. Working independently on matters of significant complexity or importance. Providing legal services to medium to large complex businesses. Leading transactional processes for transactions of significant impact and/or complexity. Managing litigation and other forms of dispute resolution for significant matters, and can formulate strategies for dispute resolution. Being a subject matter expert in areas of law has responsibilities beyond a single business unit or country. Other duties as assigned Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start). Seven (7) years of law firm and/or in-house intellectual property experience in a private, public, government or military environment. A Member of a United States bar in good standing and Registered to Practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications globally Experience involving litigation and other patent disputes Admitted to practice in Minnesota or eligible for admission within six months of employment Strong academic credentials Business acumen and an ability to provide legal advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization including business line leaders, regional heads and senior management Results-orientated approach; personal and organizational accountability; and a collegial work style High energy and a dedication to responsive client service Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN Travel: May include up to 10% domestic Relocation Assistance: Is not authorized Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
