A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and
Two (2) years of journey level automotive repair work experience which included heavy vehicle and/or construction equipment repair work.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) and a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate.

Job Summary:
Supervises and participates in the repair and overhaul of a variety of heavy vehicle and medium and heavy construction equipment; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:

Plans, assigns, and inspects the work of heavy vehicle and construction equipment mechanics and helpers;
Participates in the repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel driven heavy vehicle and medium and heavy construction equipment including the repair and overhaul of complex hydraulic and electrical systems (refuse trucks, ladder trucks, dump trucks, truck tractors, bulldozers, tractors, loaders, backhoes, cranes, rollers, scrapers, excavators);
Inspects equipment to determine needed repairs;
Estimates time and material needed to perform a job;
Determines the priority of work to be performed;
Diagnoses engine and other electrical and mechanical failures;
Inspects and road tests equipment repaired;
Performs minor welding in connection with repair work;
Requisitions materials and supplies;
Maintains records of work activities and prepares reports; and
Performs other related duties as required.
