About the role
Supports various laboratory departments and customers by performing tasks such as clerical duties, clarifying pre-analytical test requirements, order entry, specimen collections, processing samples, specimen transport distribution, supply inventory, and other non-technical support. Job Duties Orders, receives, and triages incoming specimens/slides and evaluates specimen integrity. Verifies that specimens/slides are labeled according to laboratory policy and all paperwork is correct. Performs laboratory information system functions associated with these processes. Prepares specimens/slides and completes laboratory information system functions and documentation for send out to reference laboratory. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner. Performs waived testing as assigned. Addresses client questions and problems promptly, accurately, and in a friendly and professional manner. Notifies collection site when errors or problems are found to obtain the correct information. Assists with unpacking supplies upon receipt and placing them in the appropriate storage areas/temperatures. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English. Demonstrated basic computer skills, including the use of email. Ability to perform basic math skills. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
