The Ultrasound Intern is competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions under direct and indirect supervision of an Ultrasound Technologist. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department Competent in technical operations of all equipment Assess the patients, review orders/chart as appropriate to confirm reason of exam Ensure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed Prepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist Provide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals Monitor timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement Perform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation Actively participate in department's Performance Improvement Projects Other duties as assigned
