Your Opportunity One Permanent Full Time Position Capital Power (TSX: CPX) is a growth-oriented North American power producer delivering responsible energy solutions across Canada and the United States. We are looking for a motivated Commercial Analyst to join our Commercial Operations team. In this role, you will support the financial performance, reporting, and commercial strategy of a portfolio of power generation assets while working closely with experienced leaders and cross-functional teams. This is a strong early-career opportunity to build your expertise in power markets, financial analysis, and commercial operations through hands-on work in modeling, reporting, and market analysis. You will gain exposure to trading, risk, finance, development, and asset management, with a focus on Eastern power markets such as PJM and MISO. You will contribute to our team through the following responsibilities: Build and maintain financial and operational models to forecast revenue, costs, gross margin, and asset performance. Support budgeting, forecasting, and longer-term planning by analyzing commercial and operational drivers. Monitor trade performance and profit and loss results, and explain key market and operational drivers. Prepare accurate and timely reports on generation, revenue, margin, and key performance indicators. Support settlement review and reconciliation by identifying discrepancies and investigating root causes. Analyze energy, capacity, ancillary services, fuel, and emissions market trends and their impact on asset performance. Monitor market, regulatory, and policy developments and provide clear, data-driven insights. Extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets using SQL, Excel, Python, and related tools. Develop and improve automated reporting, dashboards, API-based data connections, and analytical tools. Work collaboratively with trading, risk, finance, accounting, and asset management teams on cross-functional priorities and ad hoc analysis. What you will bring to the role: Bachelor's degree in Engineering , Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related analytical discipline. 0-3 years of experience in an analytical, financial, energy, or other quantitative environment. Knowledge of financial modeling, forecasting, and quantitative analysis. Strong Excel skills for analysis, modeling, and reporting. Experience with Python or similar tools for automation, reporting, or data analysis. Working knowledge of SQL or database querying. Ability to work with large datasets and translate analysis into clear business insights. Interest in or exposure to power markets, natural gas markets, or the energy industry; PJM and MISO knowledge is an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and curiosity. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and across teams. Working Conditions: Hybrid office/work from home position , based in our Washington DC office. This position requires minimal travel Additional Details: The pay range for this position i n Washington, DC is $80,000 to $100,000 . The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and prior relevant experience.
