POSITION OVERVIEW The Plumber is responsible to oversee, trouble shoot and perform skilled maintenance and repairs on the physical structure and associated equipment of the hospital. This position assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water and drainages systems in order to maintain St. Charles Health System. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on plumbing and other mechanical equipment. Installs pipe systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment. Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications. Completes preventative and corrective maintenance on all facilities-related equipment, systems, and infrastructure. Identifies maintenance risks on equipment. Diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults of systems. Performs mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming. Ensures compliance with all hospital, local and state standards. Maintains daily logs and records for all systems. Responds and performs emergency repairs promptly. Ensures compliance of all applicable standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures. Studies blueprints, design specifications, or manufacturers' recommendations to ascertain the configuration of heating or cooling equipment components. Reviews building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. Estimates, orders, pick up, delivers, and install materials and supplies to maintain equipment in good working condition. Inspects, examines, or tests installed systems or pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. Attaches pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment. Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment, using hand or power tools. Selects pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, hangers, or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications. Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools. Installs automatic controls to regulate pipe systems. Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches. Keeps records of work assignments. Directs helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components. Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. Maintains or repairs plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains. Locates and marks the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels. Reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. Anchors steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place. Estimates time, material, or labor costs for use in project plans. Installs underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing. Inspects structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to plan installation around obstructions, such as electrical wiring. Installs green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, or tankless hot water heaters.
