Job Summary The GI/Renal Unit is a 39-bed nursing unit with four rooms designed for semi-private occupancy. It is a medical/surgical unit designated to care for patients with renal and gastroenterological illnesses, as well as other general medical patients in times of high census. As the designated renal medical unit, their specialty is caring for patients that require Peritoneal Dialysis and is the preferred unit for these patients to be placed if clinically appropriate. Care is provided for a wide variety of illnesses and symptoms, including but not limited to: End Stage Renal Disease requiring Hemodialysis End Stage Renal Disease requiring Peritoneal Dialysis Rhabdomyolysis - Acute kidney injury Acute renal failure Hematuria requiring Continuous Bladder Irrigation Ulcerative Colitis Crohn's Disease Liver cirrhosis Gastrointestinal hemorrhage Abdominal pain (non-surgical), N/V/D, Gastritis Cholecystitis Other medical patients in times of high census Patients and patient family members receive physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial support for themselves and their families. New graduate RNs or those with less than one year of experience will be referred to the RN Residency Program.
