Job Description: The Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic first line of defence business partner supporting Sun Life Canada Leadership in meeting our Client for Life goals by providing comprehensive understanding of operational risk and supporting the design of effective solutions to manage risk within the business. We partner with Canadian leadership, first line of defence Business Unit Risk Officers, and second line of defence Risk and Compliance stakeholders to assess operational risks, enhance control frameworks, educate business on risk management, provide oversight on risk policy requirements, and ultimately enable the business to evolve while maintaining risk within appetite. As Manager, Operational Risk, you will manage risk activities for Retail Advice and Solutions (RAS) and will be a key point of contact for Canadian leaders and second line of defence stakeholders to identify, assess and manage operational risks within the portfolio. Main Accountabilities: Assess risk and control effectiveness within the RAS portfolio, identify and prioritize opportunities to improve risk management Lead risk assessments to measure risk exposures, identify internal control weaknesses, improve the control environment and minimize the risk of loss events Lead the roll-out of new/changed risk and compliance requirements by identifying the impact to assigned business areas and supporting business partners in the design and maintenance of programs to meet these requirements Provide risk consulting expertise and lead risk reviews for key business projects, digital initiatives and process changes Develop recommendations on effective control design and operational risk management best practices, based on analysis of issues and implications for the business Present operational risk findings and recommendations at monthly Risk Steering Committees with internal clients Provide insightful and valuable operational risk analysis and reporting to the risk leadership team and the business. Maintain strong/effective working relationships with all business partners Support reviews conducted by Internal Audit and Compliance as well as external auditors and regulators Lead and/or coach Operational Risk Consultant(s) assigned to portfolio Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in risk management, preferably within the security dealer or financial service industry. Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to security dealer Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, influence stakeholders. Professional certifications such as PRM (professional Risk Manager), CSI (Canadian Securities Courses) Key Competencies: Ability to distill complex requirements without oversimplifying or missing critical components Proactive and highly motivated individual who will take initiative and is able to manage unstructured activities Knowledge of risk management techniques including risk assessment, risk monitoring, control design and control effectiveness assessment Portfolio/program management experience with strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize many competing demands Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
