Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an experienced IT Applications Developer/Senior to help build and support the critical systems that power public health surveillance across the state. In this role, you'll develop high-performance applications that process hundreds of millions of healthcare messages, support epidemiologists in identifying emerging health trends, and help protect the health and well-being of Nebraskans.
This is an on-site role in Lincoln, Nebraska. Not eligible to be a contracted position.
Effective July 1st, 2026, starting wage for this position will increase to $36.060/hr.

Examples of Work
Design, develop, and implement dataflow applications to meet needs of public health epidemiologists and informaticians.
Design, develop, and implement information systems to gather, store, and process hundreds of millions of HL7 2.5.1 messages from an HIE/HDU, healthcare networks, hospitals, clinics, etc.
Design, develop, and implement performance critical database of record for billion-row Syndromic Surveillance program.
Design, develop, and implement high throughput processing (ETL) system for semi-structured HL7 data.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
