We are seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Molecular Imaging Research & Development team in Knoxville, Tennessee. In this role, you will provide hands-on technical support for prototype systems, test equipment, and laboratory operations that enable the development, verification, and validation of next-generation PET/CT imaging technologies.
You will work closely with engineers, scientists, system test teams, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), facilities, and logistics partners to ensure systems are installed, maintained, configured, and operating reliably in support of critical R&D activities.
You are responsible for:
Supporting engineering and laboratory activities through executing assigned technical tasks, updating documentation, and maintaining engineering records and bills of material.
Performing installation, de-installation, configuration, and reconfiguration of medical imaging equipment, prototype systems, and test environments supporting R&D, verification, and validation activities.
Conducting preventive maintenance on imaging systems and supporting laboratory equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with testing requirements.
Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and system integration issues while assisting engineering teams with root cause investigations and corrective actions.
Supporting prototype hardware modifications, mechanical assembly, rework activities, and test system upgrades to meet evolving engineering and testing needs.
Maintaining test cell readiness through preparing equipment, organizing workspaces, managing configurations, and controlling inventory.
Tracking and maintaining prototype configurations, system records, and equipment status to support quality, traceability, and regulatory requirements.
Assisting with system diagnostics, electrical connections, and the safe operation of energized equipment by following established procedures and best practices.
Coordinating logistics activities including equipment movement, shipping, receiving, freight management, and offsite testing support.
Collaborating with engineering, quality, facilities, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) teams to ensure compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
Demonstrating and promoting safe work practices, including properly applying Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and other applicable safety protocols.
Supporting laboratory operations and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at maximizing system uptime, efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years of hands-on technical experience supporting complex equipment, laboratory systems, manufacturing systems, medical devices, or related technologies.
Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical systems.
Ability to interpret technical documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and configuration control.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Comfortable working in a laboratory, engineering development, or technical testing environment.
Ability to safely lift, move, and install equipment as required.
