Provide bi-weekly progress and/or concerns to the Nurse Manager or designee via the Preceptee Evaluation form.
Partner with the preceptee to ensure that all orientation documentation and checklists are completed within the designated orientation period.
Participate in conjunction with the Charge Nurse in completion of the preceptee's performance appraisal.
Collaborate with the Nurse Manager or designee to evaluate progress, revise goals and update learning plan as appropriate.
Demonstrates clinical competency, knowledge, decision making and appropriate skill level.
Maintain annual preceptor competency
Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals and demonstrates self-improvement with continuing education and participation in professional development.

A Brief Overview
The preceptor responsibility and accountability is to provide guidance and mentorship to new hires as they go through the orientation process. The preceptor will demonstrate competency in the department by following policies and procedures. They will maintain clinical expertise by attending workshops, seminars, and in-services related to the needs of the department. Participates actively in clinical education activities, including orientation of new employees and teaching student nurses.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Must meet educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.
Experience Qualifications
9 months Stormont Vail Health RN experience; directors' discretion. Required
Have successfully completed Stormont Vail preceptor course training. Required
Skills and Abilities
