About the role

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing administrative and clinical duties in an outpatient setting including limited medication administration in the outpatient setting. Job Description Job Duties Administers oral, SubQ and IM medications under the direct supervision of a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician. Demonstrates basic knowledge of medication purpose, side effects and administration procedure. Performs accurate measurement of patient statistics to include vitals, height and weight. Manages room turnover and patient flow. Collects health history and medication list. Escribes orders. Prepares patient for Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and/or physical exam. Instructs patients as directed by the Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician. Performs front offices duties including telephone, reception, medical records and scheduling. Practices standard precautions. Maintains inventory in rooms. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Department Specific Duties Cardiology Clinic Assists with or perform phlebotomy and specimen collection (e.g., glucose testing, point of care INR, etc.) as ordered. Conducts EKGs, manual blood pressure measurements, and other diagnostic procedures as directed and according to established clinic protocols. Assists patients and family members with ambulation through the clinic environment Prepares patient charts and medical records ahead of visits. Assists patients in completing intake questionnaires. Stocks, clean, and disinfect exam rooms and equipment (e.g., tables, BP cuffs, glucometers). Maintains equipment and can troubleshoot issues that arise. Performs department-specific cleaning and compliance audits (daily/weekly/monthly). Obtains prior authorizations from insurance. Identifies and support quality improvement opportunities. Attends departmental meetings and participate in special projects as assigned. Practices cost containment through efficient use of time and resources. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of administrative and clinical functions in a physician office setting. Professional Experience One year experience working in a medical office setting preferred. Education Completion of American Association of Medical Assisting program required. Licensure, Certification, Registration AAMA certification preferred. Pay Rate Type Hourly Mercy is an independent, community-based organization supporting the Cedar Rapids area for over 120 years.
