The Technical Writer researches, organizes, writes, edits, and produces complex technical documentation in support of national test ranges and instrumentation programs. This role requires in-depth subject matter understanding, familiarity with the Universal Documentation System (UDS), and the ability to translate technical requirements into standardized documentation. The position supports program and test requirements for national ranges such as VSFB, RTS, WSMR, and Wallops.
As a Technical Writer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:
Research, organize, write, edit, and produce complex technical documentation for program and test requirements
Develop and format documentation using Universal Documentation System (UDS) standards and templates
Gather technical and program requirements and translate them into compliant UDS documentation
Recommend and establish document organization, layout, editorial standards, and publication methods
Coordinate publication activities with external organizations and vendors as required
Develop and maintain department editing standards and styles
Provide work leadership and guidance to lower-level documentation staff, as applicable
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable technical and program requirements
Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship
Bachelor's Degree in an applicable technical field or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in technical writing or technical documentation
Active Secret Clearance
Demonstrated experience with or working knowledge of the Universal Documentation System (UDS)
Experience developing technical requirements documentation for test programs or national ranges
Ability to gather complex technical requirements and present them in standardized formats
Active security clearance (required)
Strong written communication, editing, and organizational skills
